Broadly ovate leaves with a deeply lobed base reach 27 cm (11") long × 22 cm (9") wide, with a slightly rippled margin, a distinctive long curled tip, and a thin glaucous bloom on the underside. The leaf substance is very heavy, giving the foliage exceptional presence and resilience. At 45 cm (18") tall and 135 cm (53") wide, this fast-growing hosta fills a large shaded space with warm chartreuse colour. Canadian gardeners from Zone 3 through 9 will find it a bold and rewarding large shade specimen.

Distinctive long curled leaf tip: Each broadly ovate leaf ends in a characteristic long curled tip that adds a refined, sculptural detail unique to 'Grecian Vase' and gives the mound its elegant vase-like silhouette.

Very heavy substance: Exceptionally thick, sturdy foliage provides outstanding resilience and a commanding physical presence in the shade border — heavy substance also contributes meaningfully to slug resistance.

Warm chartreuse colouring: The yellowish-green chartreuse tone brightens shaded spaces with a warm, luminous quality, pairing naturally with blue, green, and white companion hostas in the border.

Slightly rippled margins with thin underside bloom: Gently undulating leaf edges add subtle movement, while a thin glaucous bloom on the leaf underside catches light and adds a quiet two-surface contrast.

Fast-growing semi-upright habit: An unusually fast growth rate for a large-format hosta means 'Grecian Vase' fills its generous 135 cm (53") spread with impressive speed, delivering impact in the first or second season.

Lavender summer blooms: Lavender flowers rise above the chartreuse foliage canopy in summer, adding a complementary soft purple accent that plays beautifully against the warm yellowish-green tones below.

Feature

Specification

Size (H × W)

45 cm × 135 cm (18" × 53")

Hardiness Zone

3–9

Colour

Chartreuse to yellowish-green; lavender flowers

Light Requirements

Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Grecian Vase' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9 — its fast growth rate is especially pronounced in Canadian gardens where the long vernalization period and fertile soil conditions reward heavy-substance hostas with exceptional vigour.
