Hosta 'Abiqua Trumpet' | Upright Blue-Green Compact Hosta

Description

A Vertical Blue Accent for Borders and Containers

Charles Purtymun registered Hosta 'Abiqua Trumpet' in 1987 at Walden West. He selected it for its narrow, folded leaves that flare upward like a trumpet bell. The foliage emerges with a soft glaucous blue coating that deepens to blue-green through summer. Hardy from zones 3 to 9, it suits Canadian shade gardens from borders to containers. Its distinctly upright, vertical habit sets it apart from typical mounding hostas.

  • Unique Trumpet Shape: The leaves are narrow, deeply cupped, and folded. They flare at the tips to create strong vertical interest.
  • Upright Architectural Habit: This hosta grows distinctly vertical, not outward. It suits tight spaces and mixed containers well.
  • Glaucous Blue-Green Colour: It emerges with a soft blue coating. The colour deepens to a rich blue-green through summer.
  • Heavy Seersucker Texture: Despite its compact leaf size, the rugged, puckered surface provides excellent natural slug resistance.
  • Tidy Compact Presence: It reaches a tidy mature width. It fits easily at the front of a border.
