Important Notice: Hosta 'Red Ninja' and Hosta Virus X (HVX)

At Hosta Choice Gardens, the health of your garden is our first priority. You may have seen Hosta 'Red Ninja' generating excitement recently — we looked into it too. After the primary distributor confirmed that stock tested positive for Hosta Virus X (HVX) and issued an official recall, we made the decision never to order or offer this variety — even if clean stock is later claimed to be available.

We source from reputable growers and test regularly — and when a variety raises serious concerns, we don't carry it. Every plant shipped from our nursery in Bécancour, QC is carefully selected and verified before it reaches your garden.

Have questions about HVX or plant health? We're here to help — contact us any time. Learn More About HVX

      A Note on Late-Season Foliage

As the growing season progresses into late summer and early autumn, hostas naturally begin their seasonal decline. Foliage may show fading colours, browning leaf tips, or minor insect feeding — all of which are entirely normal at this stage of the season. Please be assured that what truly matters is what you don't see: the root system. By late summer, your hosta has invested its energy underground, developing a strong, well-established root ball that will emerge vigorous and true to type next spring. Every plant shipped from our nursery in Bécancour, QC meets our True to Type standard. You are receiving an authentic, healthy cultivar — the foliage is simply telling you the season is winding down, not that the plant is in distress. We appreciate your understanding.
