A Majestic Vision of Chartreuse Elegance
Hosta 'Aliyah's Grace' is a luminous, rare medium-sized cultivar from Michigan hybridizer Stuart Asch. Asch registered it in 2004 as a standout seedling of H. pycnophylla. The thick, deeply cupped leaves emerge in bright chartreuse and warm gradually into a soft sun-kissed yellow as the season progresses. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3 through 9 and tolerates morning sun better than most yellow varieties. Plant it where its sculptural form and glowing colour can anchor a shaded border.
-
Corrugation: Thick, leathery leaves with heavy puckering and a distinctive cupped shape that adds immense character to the planting.
-
Leaf Tips: Sharp, refined points at each leaf tip give the plant a sophisticated, formal silhouette unlike most rounded hostas.
-
Colour Transition: Shifts beautifully from chartreuse to yellow through the season, acting as a natural light source in darker garden corners.
-
Slug Resistance: Heavy leaf substance makes it largely ignored by slugs, keeping foliage pristine all season.
-
Morning Sun Tolerance: Maintains its integrity with a few hours of eastern morning light, which deepens the yellow tones without scorching.
-
Flowers: Pale purple blooms on red scapes in midsummer.
-
Size: 40 cm (16") tall × 76 cm (30") wide.
-
Hardiness: Zones 3–9 — reliably cold-hardy across Canada.
