Walters Gardens registered Hosta 'Alligator Alley' in 2012 as a sport of H. 'Dick Ward'. The name captures the incredibly thick, puckered foliage that mimics the rugged hide of an alligator. A brilliant yellow centre is dramatically framed by an extra-wide, irregular margin of deep blue-green that deepens to a luminous gold as the season progresses. Foliage has exceptional substance with elite slug resistance. It grows reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Use it as a high-contrast focal point in a shaded or partially sunny border where the corrugated texture can be appreciated up close.
