A Luminous Masterpiece of Dutch Pedigree
Hosta 'Amazone' is a striking medium-sized cultivar from Dutch hybridizer Gerard Heemskerk. Heemskerk registered it in 2018 as a sport of H. 'Paul Revere', itself tracing back to the legendary H. 'Patriot'. The broad heart-shaped leaves feature a brilliant snow-white centre sharply defined by a thick forest-green margin. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3 through 9 and tolerates morning sun better than most white-centred varieties. Plant it as a high-contrast focal point at the front of a shaded border or in a container.
-
Bicolour Definition: Pure white centre provides a stark, luminous contrast against saturated green edges that flame inward — one of the cleanest white-centred hostas available.
-
Sun Resistance: Significantly more sun-tolerant than many white-centred varieties, holding its colour without scorched edges in morning light.
-
Leaf Substance: Thick, stiff foliage gives a sturdy architectural presence and superior natural resistance to slugs.
-
Habit: Tidy, symmetrical mound — works beautifully as a front-of-border specimen or in containers.
-
Flowers: Elegant lavender blooms on 50 cm (20") scapes in mid-July, adding a soft floral accent to the bold foliage.
-
Size: 40 cm (16") tall × 65–70 cm (26–28") wide.
-
Hardiness: Zones 3–9 — reliably cold-hardy across Canada.

Grower's Tip: 'Amazone' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and dappled morning light helps develop the bright white centre while afternoon shade keeps it pristine. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we monitor each division until the signature wide white centre and stiff leaf texture are fully present before shipping. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Heemskerk selection.
