Glossy Emerald Architecture on Sculpted Crimson Columns
Don Dean registered Hosta 'Celtic Uplands' in 2005 from his hybridising programme. Its H. yingeri heritage shows clearly in the lustrous leaf finish and spider-like flowers. Dark green, deeply corrugated leaves are held on vibrant red petioles in a grand vase-shaped clump. It grows reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Use it as a polished anchor in shaded borders where its upright form allows underplanting.
-
Radiant Gloss: The dark green, deeply corrugated leaves possess a notable high-sheen finish that captures and reflects dappled light.
-
Dramatic Support: Each heavy-substanced leaf is held aloft on vibrant red petioles, providing a sharp and elegant colour contrast throughout the season.
-
Vase-Shaped Profile: Its distinctively upright and spreading habit allows for beautiful underplanting opportunities with smaller shade perennials or groundcovers.
-
Spider-Like Blooms: In late summer, the clump is topped with dark lavender, spider-shaped flowers that attract local hummingbirds.

Grower's Tip: The deep corrugation and red petiole intensity reveal themselves fully only as the plant establishes — give it two seasons to reach its best. At our Bécancour, QC trial fields, we wait for the leaves to unfurl and verify the signature gloss and vase-like form before every plant ships True to Type.
