Vibrant Pink Stems and Rippled Sapphire Sails for the Shade Garden
Hosta 'Hammerin Cameron' is a medium blue hosta bred by Jeff Moore of Wisconsin from a cross between H. 'Blue Cascade' and H. 'Purple Heart'. Named in honour of the hybridizer's grandson, it was selected for its striking combination of glaucous blue foliage and bright pinkish-red petioles displayed on a distinctly upright form. Long, narrow leaves carry rambunctious ruffled margins that add a sense of movement to the border. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9, making it a strong choice for most growing regions. Use it as a bold accent in shady borders or as a container specimen where the colourful stems can be appreciated at eye level.
-
Pink-red petioles: Bright pinkish-red stems provide vivid contrast to the blue foliage and are highly visible thanks to the plant's upright habit.
-
Ruffled margins: Long, narrow leaves are edged with pronounced ruffles that add texture and a sense of constant movement to the planting.
-
Glaucous blue foliage: Rich, cool blue tone holds well through the season, anchoring the warm stem colour with a calm, architectural presence.
-
Upright form: The distinctly upright habit lifts the foliage and exposes the colourful petioles, making this cultivar especially effective in mixed borders and containers.
-
Size: Reaches approximately 41 cm (16") in height and 71 cm (28") in width at maturity.

Grower's Tip: Plant in a slightly elevated position or a large container so the vivid pink-red stems can be appreciated at eye level — the upright habit does the work of displaying them naturally. Every plant is verified True to Type at our trial fields in Bécancour, QC, where we confirm the petiole colour saturation and leaf ripple meet our standards before shipping.
