A Neat Dark Gem for the Rock Garden and Trough
G. R. Goodwin registered Hosta 'Small World' in 2013. He raised it from a self-cross of 'Gaigin'. The nearly round, intensely flat leaves display a deep green colour with a slight sheen on both surfaces. It thrives across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Use it in rock gardens, troughs, or as a tidy edging plant in shaded beds.
-
Deep Green Intensity: The dark, richly coloured leaves hold their depth from spring through to frost, providing a reliable foundation of colour in the shade garden.
-
Distinctive Leaf Form: Nearly round with a cordate base and an intensely flat surface, each leaf is a study in clean, precise geometry.
-
Subtle Sheen: A slight gloss on both the upper and lower leaf surfaces catches dappled light, adding quiet luminosity to shaded positions.
-
Compact and Tidy: Reaching just 17.8 cm (7") high by 38.1 cm (15") wide, it is perfectly scaled for containers, troughs, and the front of a shaded border.
-
Pale Lavender Blooms: Bell-shaped pale lavender flowers rise on 20–30 cm (8–12") scapes from late June through mid-July.

Grower's Tip: The intensely flat, round leaves of 'Small World' are best appreciated at close range — a trough or raised container brings the fine leaf detail to eye level. At our Bécancour, QC trial fields, we grow this cultivar from originator's stock and verify the characteristic flat, round form before every plant ships True to Type.
