A Statuesque Symphony of Cream and Cobalt
Hosta 'Sound of Music' is a giant variegated hosta bred by Hans Hansen for Walters Gardens and introduced through the Proven Winners® Shadowland® program. It was developed as a seedling of the legendary Hosta 'Empress Wu', inheriting that cultivar's commanding scale. The thick, corrugated leaves emerge with a vibrant yellow centre framed by wide, beryl-blue margins that mature to creamy white by midsummer. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Plant it at the back of a shaded border where its architectural mass can anchor the entire composition.
-
Grand Scale Architecture: Reaching over 150 cm (60") in diameter, this variety serves as a structural hallmark for the back of the border or a large woodland garden.
-
Dynamic Colour Transition: The sunny yellow centres mature to a sophisticated creamy white as the Canadian summer progresses, extending seasonal interest.
-
Textural Masterpiece: Nearly round leaves feature heavy corrugation and a glaucous coating on both sides, offering tactile richness and good slug resistance.
-
Prolific Floral Display: Unlike many giants, this cultivar produces numerous tubular, near-white flowers that encircle the scapes in a beautiful floral halo mid-season.

Grower's Tip: Give this giant plenty of room — its moderate growth rate means it will quickly fill its allotted space and become a permanent centrepiece of your collection. Every division is monitored in our Bécancour trial fields to verify the distinct variegation and vigour before shipping, so your plant arrives True to Type and ready to perform.
