A Towering Champion of the Shade Garden
Mark Zilis registered Hosta 'Victory' in 2003 as a sport of H. nigrescens 'Elatior'. The American Hosta Growers Association named it Hosta of the Year in 2015. Broadly ovate leaves are medium green with a creamy yellow margin that shifts to cream-white through summer. Both leaf surfaces are very shiny, giving the foliage a polished, luminous quality across zones 3–9. Use it as a commanding upright specimen in large shaded borders or woodland gardens.
-
Dual-Surface Sheen: Both the upper and lower leaf surfaces are very shiny, creating a luminous, polished quality that catches every shift in dappled light.
-
Seasonal Margin Transition: The creamy yellow margin emerges bright in spring and gradually shifts to cream-white through summer, offering two distinct looks in one season.
-
Towering Scapes: Flower scapes rise 102–178 cm (40–70") above the mound, bearing near-white tubular flowers up to 6.4 cm (2.5") long from mid-July through early August.
-
Upright Giant: Reaching 76 cm (30") high with a spread of up to 178 cm (70"), it forms a commanding, upright mound that anchors large-scale plantings with authority.
-
AHGA Hosta of the Year 2015: Recognized by the American Hosta Growers Association as the finest cultivar of its year — a credential that reflects its exceptional garden performance.

Grower's Tip: Allow generous space — 'Victory' spreads up to 178 cm (70") across and sends scapes up to 178 cm (70") high, demanding a site that lets it perform at full scale. At our Bécancour, QC trial fields, we verify the characteristic shiny leaf surface and creamy margin before every plant ships True to Type.
