A Blue Giant of Biblical Proportions
Hosta 'Amos' is a magnificent, giant-stature cultivar that brings a sense of prehistoric grandeur to any landscape. This non-registered masterpiece originated from the award-winning hybridizing program of Olga Petryszyn and was subsequently sold to Dan Cauffman of Chesterton, Indiana. Believed to be a seedling of the legendary 'Big John', it forms a massive, spreading mound of enormous, heart-shaped leaves that emerge in a deep, dusky blue. As the season progresses the foliage matures into a sophisticated blue-green, maintaining a heavy, leathery substance that commands respect in any woodland border or large-scale garden design.
Why It Stands Out
-
Colossal Landscape Presence: One of the true "Titans" of the hosta world, reaching a massive spread of nearly 180 cm.
-
Intense Leaf Corrugation: Features heavy, "seersuckered" puckering that adds incredible tactile depth and architectural interest as the plant ages.
-
Elite Slug Resistance: Its exceptionally thick, wax-coated foliage is virtually impenetrable to common garden pests.
-
Steadfast Blue-Green Hue: Holds its cool, dark tones beautifully throughout the humid Canadian summer without washing out.
-
Tall Sturdy Flower Scapes: Produces elegant near-white flowers in midsummer that rise high above the massive canopy on 120 cm scapes.

Grower's Tip
Because of its giant potential, Hosta 'Amos' requires deep, fertile soil and plenty of room to stretch—avoid planting it too close to structures where its massive leaves might be cramped. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we monitor the emergence of these giant blue pips with extra care to ensure the specific seersuckered texture is perfectly represented. Following our "True to Type" mandate, we never ship until we visually verify the health and traits of each plant upon its spring emergence, ensuring you receive a verified, robust giant ready for your landscape.
