A Radiant Halo for Your Shade Garden
Walters Gardens registered Hosta 'Afterglow' in 2012 as a sport of 'Climax'. It produces massive heart-shaped leaves with a wide yellow-to-gold margin and a rich forest-green centre. The high-contrast halo effect glows in the dim light of a woodland border. Its fortunei heritage gives it a reliable growth habit and structural elegance across zones 3–9. Use it as a premier focal point in large shaded beds or woodland borders.
-
Extra-Wide Golden Margins: Exceptionally broad yellow edges can occupy nearly half the leaf surface, brightening any dark corner of the garden.
-
Heart-Shaped Substance: Large, thick leaves up to 30 cm (12") long offer heavy substance that provides excellent resistance to slugs and snails.
-
Impressive Landscape Scale: Matures into a commanding, upright-mounded specimen spreading over 90 cm (36"), perfect for anchoring a large bed.
-
Regal Texture: The foliage develops a light corrugation at maturity, adding a tactile, seersuckered depth to the variegation.
-
Lavender Summer Spikes: Tall, sturdy scapes of tubular lavender flowers appear in midsummer and attract hummingbirds to the garden.

Grower's Tip: Give this cultivar dappled morning sun to help the wide margins transition from chartreuse to a brilliant buttery yellow. At our Bécancour, QC trial fields, we verify the wide-margin definition and heart-shaped leaf structure before every plant ships True to Type.
