Description

A Luminous Giant for the Canadian Shade Garden

Hans Hansen introduced Hosta 'Age of Gold' through Walters Gardens in 2018. He crossed an Elatior seedling with 'American Sweetheart' to create this golden specimen. The large, heart-shaped leaves glow in brilliant golden yellow that holds through the full Canadian growing season. This hosta performs reliably across zones 3–9 and tolerates gentle morning sun to intensify its colour. Use it as a bold specimen anchor in woodland borders or large shade beds.

Leaf Shape and Texture: Broadly ovate with a cordate base and good slug resistance — a large, dense leaf with the substance to hold its golden colour pristine through the season.
Leaf Colour: Brilliant golden yellow that brightens even the deepest shade corner — a warm, luminous presence that holds its intensity through the full growing season without fading.
Mature Size: 64–71 cm high × 152 cm wide (25–28 in × 60 in) — a true specimen giant forming a dense, upright-spreading mound that commands the shaded landscape.
Flowers: Near-white tubular blooms with a pale lavender interior on tall 122 cm (48 in) scapes in midsummer, rising dramatically above the golden foliage.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	64–71 cm × 152 cm (25–28" × 60")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Golden yellow
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade; tolerates morning sun

Grower's Tip: Hosta 'Age of Gold' handles Canadian winters reliably from Zone 3 through 9. Site it where it receives dappled afternoon shade or gentle morning sun — a touch of sun intensifies the gold without scorching the leaf. We grow it at our nursery in Bécancour, QC, and our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic 'Age of Gold', verified before it leaves Bécancour, QC.
