Description

A Botanical Tribute to Horticulture's Finest

Hosta 'Alan Titchmarsh' is a large cultivar named in honour of the legendary British gardener and broadcaster. R. & M. Ford registered this fast-growing sport, which delivers bold three-colour variegation in the shade garden. Its gold centre, white dividing line, and deep green margin create a striking focal point from spring through autumn. The leaves develop a beautifully crinkled texture as the plant matures, adding tactile depth to its architectural presence. It establishes quickly and rewards patience with an impressive, specimen-worthy mound.

Leaf Shape and Texture: Substantially crinkled and heavy with a rugged, refined texture that resists common garden stressors — tactile depth that improves with each season as the plant matures toward its impressive specimen size.
Leaf Colour: A brilliant yellow-gold centre and wide deep green margin uniquely separated by a delicate thin white line — bold three-colour variegation that creates a sharp, refined focal point from spring through autumn.
Mature Size: 55–60 cm high (width not yet recorded) — a large, fast-growing mound that reaches specimen scale more quickly than many variegated giants once established.
Flowers: Tall upright scapes carry lavender-purple blooms in midsummer, providing a vertical accent above the striking variegated foliage and attracting local pollinators.

Feature	Specification
Size (H)	55–60 cm (22–24") — width not yet recorded
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Yellow-gold centre, thin white line, wide deep green margin; lavender-purple flowers
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade; tolerates some sun

Grower's Tip: For the sharpest distinction between the gold centre and the white dividing line, choose a site with bright dappled light. This cultivar handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9 — a vigorous performer even in the cool, moist climate of St. John's, NL. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we monitor the spring emergence carefully to confirm the three-colour variegation is perfectly balanced before shipping. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Hosta 'Alan Titchmarsh', verified before it leaves Bécancour, QC.
