Description

A Misty Masterpiece of Speckled Sophistication for the Shade Garden

Ken Herrema registered Hosta 'Allegan Fog' in 2000 as a sport of 'Fortunei Aurea'. It is part of the celebrated Allegan series from Michigan. The foliage is dark green at the margin with a parchment-white centre heavily speckled and fogged with fine green dots. This intricate misty variegation creates a hazy, multidimensional effect that shifts as you move through the garden. It is reliably hardy across Canadian zones 3 through 9.

Unique Speckled Variegation: The parchment-white centre is filled with delicate green flecking that gives the plant its namesake foggy appearance — no two leaves look exactly alike.
Wavy, Twisted Foliage: Heart-shaped leaves feature a distinct twist and ruffled margin, adding a sense of swirling motion to the mound.
High-Contrast Borders: Dark green margins provide a sharp, clean frame that makes the speckled centre truly pop in shaded corners and woodland settings.
Tidy Mounding Habit: Forms a dense, upright-to-mounding clump approximately 48 cm (19") tall — ideal as a front-of-border specimen or container plant.
Lavender Summer Bloom: Elegant striped lavender flowers rise on 60 cm (24") scapes in midsummer, complementing the cool-toned foliage beautifully.

Feature	Specification
Size	48 cm H × 100 cm W (19" H × 39" W)
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Dark green margins, speckled white and green centre
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: For the most vivid speckled contrast, choose a spot with dappled morning light — deep shade can cause the fogged centre to shift toward a more solid green over time. This cultivar handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, making it a dependable performer from coast to coast. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we monitor each division to confirm the signature speckled variegation and twisted leaf shape are fully present before shipping. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Hosta 'Allegan Fog', verified before it leaves Bécancour.
