Description

A Stately Vision of Broad Leaves and Bright Borders

Dick and Jane Ward registered Hosta 'Amazing Grace' in 1999 from a cross of H. 'Pin Stripe' and H. montana f. macrophylla. The massive broad leaves carry a deep green centre and a strikingly wide creamy-white border with a slightly rippled texture and prominent veining. Montana heritage gives the foliage a graceful downward arch and a shovel-like scale that fills space with authority. It grows vigorously across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Plant it where it has room to arch and anchor a woodland garden with a lush, commanding presence.

Leaf Shape and Texture: Large, broadly ovate with a graceful downward-arching montana habit — slightly rippled margins, prominent veining, and thick substantial foliage that provides good natural slug resistance and a tactile, high-end feel at maturity.
Leaf Colour: Deep green centre with a strikingly wide creamy-white margin that occupies a significant portion of each leaf — a luminous halo that brightens dark corners and contrasts beautifully with the rich centre all season.
Mature Size: 50 cm high × 100 cm wide (20 in × 39 in) — a large, vigorous mound that fills its space relatively quickly for a variegated hosta, rewarding gardeners with bold impact without a long wait.
Flowers: Soft pale lavender blooms appear in mid-July on tall scapes, standing in gentle contrast to the dark green and creamy-white foliage below.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	50 cm × 100 cm (20" × 39")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Dark green centre with wide creamy-white margin
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Amazing Grace' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and its montana genes give it a wide arching habit that can easily overtop smaller companions — give it space to perform. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we wait for the signature wide rippled margins to define themselves each spring before every plant ships. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Hosta 'Amazing Grace', verified before it leaves Bécancour, QC.
