Description

A Divine Mist of Fragrance and Frost

Bob Solberg registered Hosta 'Ambrosia' in 2016 as a sport of H. 'Guacamole'. A heavy glaucous wax coating creates a misty blue margin and frosted haze over the entire leaf surface, elevating the Guacamole lineage into something truly ethereal. The light yellow centre and blue-green margins maintain their appearance throughout summer, with fresh wax-covered growth continuing even in the heat. It grows vigorously across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Plant it where morning sun can draw out its powerful late-summer fragrance.

Exceptional Fragrance: Large pale lavender flowers are among the most fragrant in the hosta world, filling the garden with a powerful, sweet scent in late summer that no other Guacamole sport can match.
Frosted Glaucous Coating: A heavy waxy bloom provides a unique silvery-misty layer over the yellow and blue-green variegation, giving 'Ambrosia' a cool, ethereal quality unlike any other large hosta.
Excellent Sun Tolerance: Inherits outstanding sun tolerance from its Guacamole parentage, thriving in brighter light that would scorch most other variegated hostas.
Vigorous and Fast-Filling: Quickly forms a massive symmetrical mound reaching 60 cm (24") tall and 135 cm (53") wide, making it one of the most rewarding large hostas for filling shaded borders.
Extended Fresh Season: Continues to produce fresh waxy foliage throughout summer, keeping the clump looking pristine and vibrant right through to the first autumn frost.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	60 cm × 135 cm (24" × 53")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Light yellow centre with misty blue-green margins
Light Requirements	Partial shade to partial sun; morning sun enhances fragrance

Grower's Tip: Several hours of morning sun maximises both the fragrant blossoms and the glaucous wax development on 'Ambrosia' — it handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9 and rewards a bright, sheltered position. We grow it at our nursery in Bécancour, QC and verify the heavy wax coating and vibrant variegation at spring emergence before every plant ships. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Hosta 'Ambrosia', verified before it leaves Bécancour.
