Van Wade and Mark Zilis spied Hosta 'American Dream' in 1993, and Wade registered it in 1999 as a stabilised white-margined sport of H. 'High Fat Cream'. It forms a large, architectural mound with wide, pointed, slightly corrugated leaves. The centre opens greenish-yellow in spring and matures to a warm creamy yellow as the season progresses. A broad, crisp white margin frames each leaf throughout, delivering sharp, high-impact contrast. It grows reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9 and makes a commanding specimen for large shaded borders.
