Hosta 'Angel from Montgomery' | Green Centre Yellow to Cream Margin Fast-Growing Hosta

Description

A Fast-Growing Chuck Wasitis Seedling With a Yellow-to-Cream Seasonal Margin

Chuck Wasitis registered Hosta 'Angel from Montgomery' in 2014, with Bridgewood Gardens as introducer. Broadly ovate leaves with a flat base reach 11.4 cm (4.5") long × 6.4 cm (2.5") wide, with a narrow 0.6 cm (¼") margin that opens yellow in spring and transitions to creamy white as the season progresses. The slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside give the medium green centre a clean, fresh appearance. Lightly wavy edges add gentle movement to the compact mound. Canadian gardeners from Zone 3 through 9 will appreciate its fast growth rate and two-season colour interest in the shaded border.

  • Yellow-to-cream seasonal margin: The narrow margin opens a warm yellow in spring and transitions to creamy white by summer — two distinct looks from a single plant across one season.
  • Originator's stock provenance: Hosta Choice Gardens acquired this cultivar directly from the originator's source, ensuring the variegation pattern and cultivar integrity are fully documented and verified.
  • Fast growth rate: Unlike many collector hostas, 'Angel from Montgomery' establishes and fills in quickly, making it a rewarding choice for gardeners who want results without a long wait.
  • Broadly ovate with flat base: The leaf shape — broadly ovate with a flat rather than cordate base — gives this cultivar a distinctive, slightly upright leaf presentation within the tidy compact mound.
  • Pale purple summer blooms: Tubular pale purple flowers rise on green scapes 50.8–58.4 cm (20–23") tall, adding a soft floral accent above the two-toned foliage in summer.
Feature Specification
Size (H × W) 25.4 cm × 45.7 cm (10" × 18")
Hardiness Zone 3–9
Colour Medium green centre; yellow (spring) to cream (summer) margin
Light Requirements Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Angel from Montgomery' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and its fast growth rate means it fills a shaded border spot satisfyingly quickly — the yellow-to-cream margin transition is especially striking in the cooler temperatures of a Canadian spring. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Chuck Wasitis selection — verified before it leaves Bécancour, QC.
