A Rare Jewel: The Hosta That Blushes Purple

For the Canadian collector who craves more than just a sea of green and blue, Hosta 'Aquamarine' is a breakthrough in modern breeding that truly earns its name. This medium-sized standout is a master of colour transformation, designed to bring a sophisticated, high-contrast palette to your shade garden from the spring thaw through the dog days of a prairie summer. Whether you are planting a woodland border in the Maritimes or a container in British Columbia, its unique "purple-blushed" foliage provides a rare, jewel-toned elegance that few other hostas can match.

Why It Stands Out

The "Purple Blush" Phenomenon: In the cool Canadian spring, the emerging aqua-blue leaves are frequently washed with a stunning purple haze—a rare genetic trait that makes every plant a unique work of art.
Saturated Red Petioles: Striking burgundy-red stems don't just stay at the base; the pigment bleeds upward into the leaf blade, creating a vivid "heart" against the blue-green foliage.
Armor-Plated Substance: The leaves are remarkably thick and deeply veined, offering superior resistance against the slugs and pests that often thrive in damp, shady Canadian garden beds.
Late-Season Lavender: Just as other perennials begin to fade, 'Aquamarine' sends up elegant lavender flowers on dark scapes in late summer (August through September), extending your garden's visual interest.

Technical Specs

Spec	Details
Size	Medium (38–45 cm Tall x 75–80 cm Wide)
Zone	3 - 9 (Reliably hardy across most of Canada)
Color	Aqua-Blue with Purple Spring Blush
Light	Morning Sun (enhances purple) to Part Shade

Grower's Tip

To maximize that coveted purple spring blush, ensure your 'Aquamarine' receives a few hours of cool morning light; in deep shade, these unique pigments may remain more muted. At Hosta Choice Gardens, we strictly follow the "True to Type" rule. We don't ship dormant crowns; we wait for the first leaves to emerge in our Bécancour, QC nursery to personally verify the health of the root system and the presence of those signature red petioles. This means your hosta arrives at your doorstep—from the Rockies to the Atlantic—fully verified, healthy, and ready to thrive in our unique Canadian climate.
