Description

A Bold Statement in High-Gloss Emerald and Red

Hosta 'Armani' is a striking, contemporary introduction that brings a refined, high-fashion aesthetic to the shaded landscape. Registered in 2015 by the acclaimed Belgian hybridizer Danny Van Eechaute, this large cultivar is celebrated for its sleek, dark green foliage and exceptionally clean lines. The leaves emerge with a brilliant, high-gloss finish, as if they were professionally polished, and feature elegant, deep veining that creates a subtle rippled effect along the margins. This variety is a quintessential choice for Canadian gardeners looking to anchor a perennial bed with a plant that exudes both architectural strength and modern sophistication.

Why It Stands Out

Vibrant Red Petioles: One of its most captivating features is the presence of intense, dark purple-red petioles (stems), which provide a sharp, vertical contrast to the deep emerald leaf blades.
Glossy, Polished Texture: The heart-shaped leaves possess a heavy, waxy substance and a reflective sheen that illuminates darker woodland corners.
Majestic Large Form: This fast-growing variety forms a substantial mound that can reach over 110 cm (43") in width, making it a powerful ground-covering specimen.
Late-Season Interest: Beyond its foliage, it produces attractive lavender flowers in mid-to-late summer that stand out beautifully against the dark, upright stems.

Technical Specs

Feature	Details
Size	50–60 cm Height / 110–125 cm Spread (20–24" H / 43–49" W)
Hardiness Zone	Standard Canadian Zones 3–9
Colour	Rich, glossy dark green
Light Requirements	Partial Shade to Full Shade; Sun Tolerant (maintains gloss in morning sun)

Grower's Tip
To truly highlight the "red legs" of Hosta 'Armani', we recommend planting it in a slightly elevated position or at the front of a border where the stem colour isn't hidden by lower-growing plants. At our nursery in Bécancour, we wait for the spring emergence to confirm that the glossy sheen and characteristic dark petioles are fully developed. This True to Type verification is our promise that the specimen you receive is the genuine Van Eechaute introduction, ready to perform with vigour in your local climate.
