Description

A Majestic Golden Canopy with Architectural Presence

Hosta 'Arnold Black' brings golden, spreading grandeur to the heart of the Canadian shade garden. Dick and Jane Ward registered this hybrid of 'White Vision', with H. montana macrophylla ancestry shaping its architectural presence. Substantial, broadly ovate leaves emerge golden-yellow, with a matte finish and deeply impressed veins. Moderately wavy, slightly rippled margins lend refined movement to the broad canopy. Gardeners from the prairies to the Atlantic can use this wide-spreading specimen to anchor a large shade border.

Broad Spreading Habit: The generous mound creates a golden canopy that fills larger landscape gaps and gives a spacious border a confident focal point.
Classic Montana Character: Long, elegant leaves with heart-shaped bases carry the architectural look of its H. montana ancestry.
Pure White Floral Display: Green scapes carry delicate, tubular white flowers in early summer, adding a crisp contrast to the golden foliage.
Textural Rippled Margins: Subtle rippling along the leaf edges provides refined movement that prevents the large foliage from feeling static.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	61 × 122 cm (24 × 48 in)
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Golden yellow
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: To encourage the impressive spread of Hosta 'Arnold Black', give it plenty of breathing room in rich, moisture-retentive soil. Its Zone 3–9 hardiness suits Canadian winters, while an uncrowded position lets the broad leaves and wavy margins show their architectural character. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic 'Arnold Black' when stock becomes available, ready to bring its golden, spreading grandeur to your local landscape.
