Description

Golden Radiance to Brighten Your Garden Floor

Exuding a tropical warmth that feels almost out of place in our northern climate, Hosta 'Avocado' is a magnificent sport of the award-winning 'Guacamole'. Registered by J. and B. Diesen, this variety is prized for its large, rounded leaves that feature a glowing gold centre surrounded by a wide, avocado-green border. Beyond its stunning visual appeal, it is one of the few hostas that delights the senses with large, fragrant lavender flowers in mid-summer, filling your garden with a sweet, subtle perfume. It is a robust performer that brings a sense of lush, sun-kissed luxury to any Canadian shade garden.

Why It Stands Out

Luminous Gold Centres: The bright interior of each leaf creates a "glowing" effect even on overcast days.
Fragrant Summer Blooms: Produces large, pale lavender flowers that are highly attractive to pollinators and possess a wonderful scent.
Rapid Growth Rate: Known for its vigour, quickly forming a large, impressive mound that anchors a garden bed.
Sun Tolerance: Unlike many of its cousins, this variety can handle more morning sun, which helps intensify its golden centre.

Grower's Tip

For the best results in your local micro-climate, plant Hosta 'Avocado' where it can receive dappled light or gentle morning sun to maximize its golden hues. Because we are committed to quality, we verify every specimen as True to Type by observing the plant's early spring growth right here in Quebec. This ensures the fragrance and distinct colour patterns are fully established before we pack your plant for its journey across Canada.
