Description

A Small Blue Jewel With a Heart

Bob Solberg registered Hosta 'Baby Blue Eyes' in 2006. He crossed H. 'Cody' with H. 'Dorset Blue' to create it. The result is a neat, mound-like miniature with medium blue-green, heart-shaped leaves covered in a glaucous bloom on both surfaces. It grows quickly to a compact 15 cm (6") high by 41 cm (16") wide. It thrives from Zone 3 through 9, making it a reliable choice for Canadian gardens from coast to coast.

Foliage: Medium blue-green leaves with a glaucous bloom on both the upper and lower surfaces. Broadly ovate with a cordate base, lightly cupped, lightly folded, and lightly corrugated. Each leaf measures approximately 8.9 cm (3.5") long × 7.0 cm (2.75") wide with 8 vein pairs.
Habit: Neat, flat mound-like clump. Fast-growing for its size, forming a tidy round of heart-shaped blue foliage that holds its shape through the season.
Flowers: Pale lavender, tubular flowers on blue-green scapes 25–36 cm (10–14") high. Blooms mid-July — a delicate complement to the cool blue foliage.
Garden Use: Ideal for rock gardens, container plantings, small-space borders, or as a front-of-border accent. Its compact scale and bold blue colour make it a standout despite its small size.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	15 cm × 41 cm (6" × 16")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Medium blue-green with glaucous bloom
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Baby Blue Eyes' handles Canadian winters with ease across Zone 3 through 9. We grow it at our nursery in Bécancour, QC, where its glaucous bloom intensifies in shadier, cooler conditions. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic 'Baby Blue Eyes', verified before it leaves Bécancour.
