Hosta 'Baby Booties' | Mini Green White-Margined Heart-Shaped Hosta

Description

Little Heart-Shaped Leaves That Look Like a Baby Flower Arrangement

D. and M. Beilstein registered Hosta 'Baby Booties' in 2012. It grew from an open-pollinated seedling, with Mark Zilis introducing it to the trade. This miniature forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump just 18 cm (7") high by 31 cm (12") wide. Its medium green leaves have creamy white margins and a distinctively heart-shaped, broadly ovate form. It thrives from Zone 3 through 9 and is well suited to Canadian gardens across all regions.

  • Foliage: Medium green leaves edged with a creamy white margin 0.6–1.3 cm (0.25–0.5") wide. Broadly ovate with a cordate base, relatively flat overall, dull on the upper surface and slightly shiny underneath. Each leaf measures approximately 5.1 cm (2") long × 3.8 cm (1.5") wide with 5 to 6 vein pairs.
  • Habit: Neat mound-like clump with a fast growth rate for its miniature scale. The heart-shaped leaves create a charming, layered effect reminiscent of a small floral arrangement.
  • Flowers: Pale purple, tubular flowers 5.1 cm (2") long on tall green scapes 56–61 cm (22–24") high — surprisingly tall for such a small plant. Blooms early July through early August, with the potential to set viable seeds in dark green pods.
  • Garden Use: Perfect for troughs, containers, fairy gardens, rock gardens, or front-of-border edging. Its bold white margins and compact size make it easy to place almost anywhere in a shady garden.
