Hosta 'Blonde Impression' | Grand Golden Canopy for Shade

Description

A Grand Gilded Canopy for the Architectural Border

Hosta 'Blonde Impression' is a majestic, large-scale specimen that serves as a luminous anchor in the Canadian shade landscape. Discovered by B. Balitewicz, this impressive cultivar is a hybrid of the towering Hosta 'Elatior' and the sun-loving Hosta 'High Noon', inheriting a robust vase-shaped habit and exceptional leaf size. Its foliage emerges in a vibrant, sunny yellow that commands attention, eventually maturing into a soft, sophisticated chartreuse as the season progresses. Whether framing a woodland path in the Rockies or adding a splash of brilliance to a Maritime garden, its sheer scale and golden hue make it a standout choice. At our nursery in Bécancour, we monitor the seasonal transition of its massive leaves to ensure the health and colouration are True to Type before your order is ever prepared for shipping.

Why It Stands Out

  • Stately Scale: Reaches a broad, sweeping 172 cm width, making it a premier choice for filling expansive garden spaces.
  • Luminous Golden Foliage: Large, heart-shaped leaves provide a constant source of sunshine even on the overcast days common across Canada.
  • Architectural Form: Inherits a tall, vase-like silhouette from its ‘Elatior’ parentage, allowing for beautiful underplanting opportunities.
  • Mid-Summer Floral Interest: Produces tall, sturdy scapes with pale lavender flowers in July, adding a vertical element of soft colour to the golden mound.

Grower’s Tip

Given its parentage, Hosta 'Blonde Impression' can tolerate more light than most varieties, which helps maintain its bright yellow intensity; however, in drier regions, ensuring consistent moisture is key to supporting such an expansive leaf surface. We avoid shipping dormant stock to guarantee a successful start in your garden — we wait for the first flush of spring in Bécancour to verify that the majestic size and golden tone are True to Type, so you receive a healthy, vigorous plant ready to make its own impression.
