Description

A Charming Cobalt Gem for the Shady Rockery

A true superstar of the miniature world, Hosta 'Blue Mouse Ears' originated as a delightful sport of Hosta 'Blue Cadet'. This 2008 Hosta of the Year winner has captivated Canadian gardeners with its exceptionally thick, rubbery leaves that resemble the perfectly rounded ears of a field mouse. Its compact, tidy mound is a standout choice for a stone trough or the front edge of a garden path, holding its ground with surprising vigour despite its small stature.

Matte Sapphire Curves: The nearly round, heart-shaped leaves are coated in a thick, glaucous bloom that creates a rich, beryl-blue finish.
Indestructible Leaf Substance: Known for having some of the thickest foliage in the genus, this variety is a pinnacle of slug resistance, maintaining its pristine appearance throughout the season.
Showy Summer Blooms: In midsummer, short, sturdy scapes produce perfectly proportioned clusters of bell-shaped, lavender flowers that sit just above the foliage.
Impeccable Symmetrical Habit: The mound remains remarkably tight and uniform, making it a work of art when planted in groups or used as a living border in a shady container.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	15.2 cm × 30.5 cm (6" × 12")
Hardiness Zone	Canadian Zones 3–9
Colour	Intense blue to blue-green
Light Requirements	Partial to Full Shade

Grower's Tip: To keep the "ears" looking their best, avoid heavy mulching right up to the crown, which can sometimes overwhelm smaller specimens. Because this variety is so distinct, we carefully observe the leaf thickness and rounded shape in our Bécancour trial beds to ensure every division is True to Type before it leaves our care.
