Bob Solberg registered Hosta 'Blue Ridge' in 2009 as a sport of H. 'Frost Giant', selected for its very large size and excellent substance. Broadly ovate, cordate-based leaves reach 30.5 cm (12") long × 25.4 cm (10") wide with a heavy glaucous bloom on both surfaces, slightly rippled margins, and a lightly folded, wavy texture. Clumps form an impressive mound 71.1 cm (28") tall and 167.6 cm (66") wide — a true giant for the shade garden. Tall green scapes rise 96.5–114.3 cm (38–45") above the foliage in late June, carrying near-white tubular flowers. Canadian gardeners from Zone 3 through 9 will find it an unmatched structural anchor for large shade plantings.
