Description

A Monumental Fountain of Sapphire Splendour

Hosta 'Bodacious Blue' is a majestic sieboldiana seedling that stands as a pinnacle of giant blue hosta breeding. Coveted for decades, this massive cultivar offers a more vigorous growth habit than Blue Angel, with a distinct fountain-like silhouette. The enormous overlapping leaves create a dense, cascading mound that extends clear to the ground. It thrives across Canadian hardiness zones 3 through 9 with ease. From the Maritimes to the Prairies, this titan commands attention with its sheer scale and graceful form.

Cascading Shingled Foliage: Enormous leaves overlay one another like shingles on a roof, creating a dense, cascading mound that sweeps clear to the ground.
Superior Vigour and Stature: Notably bigger and faster-growing than many giant peers, it quickly establishes a colossal 203 cm (80″) wide presence in the shade garden.
Towering Summer Spires: In early summer, strong 122 cm (48″) scapes rise high above the blue canopy, displaying elegant pale lavender to near-white flowers.
Heavy Blue-Green Substance: Smooth, ovate leaves reaching up to 40 cm (16″) in length hold a sophisticated blue-green hue throughout the Canadian growing season.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	81 cm × 203 cm (32″ × 80″)
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Rich blue-green
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: Bodacious Blue needs significant real estate to show off its ground-sweeping fountain habit — allow at least 2 metres of clearance on all sides. It handles Canadian winters reliably from Zone 3 through 9, and we grow it at our nursery in Bécancour, QC until each plant exhibits the correct cascading form and leaf dimensions. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Bodacious Blue, verified before it leaves Bécancour.
