Description

Deep Emerald Valleys of Intensely Puckered Rugosity

Rick Goodenough bred Hosta 'Chanticleer' as a large-scale selection prized for raw texture and architectural depth. It forms a rounded, high-impact clump of rich, shiny green foliage with intense corrugation. The deeply puckered leaves have an almost prehistoric, alligator-skin quality that commands attention in any shaded border. It suits Canadian zones 3–9 and thrives as a specimen or bold anchor planting. Give it plenty of room to reach its full 127 cm (50") spread.

Extreme Puckering: Large leaves feature showy, deep-set dents and intense puckering that create an almost prehistoric, alligator-skin texture.
Lustrous Sheen: Each rich green leaf is notably shiny on top, contrasted by a waxy white sheen on the underside for a sophisticated wet look.
Exceptional Substance: Thick, corrugated foliage naturally discourages slugs and stands up beautifully to early spring storms.
Wavy Elegance: Broadly heart-shaped with a cordate base, the gently rippled leaf margins add a sense of movement to the massive mound.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	71 cm × 127 cm (28" × 50")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Intense shiny forest green
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: This large performer needs plenty of room to express its full 127 cm (50") wingspan and extreme corrugation. We monitor spring emergence at our Bécancour trial fields to confirm the puckered texture and shiny finish are True to Type before each plant ships.
