Description

A Ghostly Shimmer of White and Blue for the Shade Garden

F. and C. Broussard and K. Walek introduced Hosta 'Fallen Angel' as a sport of Guardian Angel. It inherits the large, blue-green foliage of its parent but adds a shimmering white-speckled centre. Each leaf shows 12 deep vein pairs, rippled margins, and a glaucous cerulean underside. Hardy from zones 3 to 9, it performs reliably in Canadian shade gardens coast to coast. Its ghostly variegation and bold scale make it a striking specimen for woodland borders.

Ghostly Spring Emergence: The foliage emerges with a striking white centre and fine green speckling. The effect shimmers in dappled morning light.
Bold Leaf Architecture: Large leaves reach 40 cm in length with 12 deep vein pairs. A glaucous cerulean bloom on the underside adds cool contrast.
Rippled Texture: Slightly rippled margins and a classic heart-shaped base give the mound a sense of movement. The dull upper surface deepens the visual effect.
Near-White Summer Flowers: Tall blue-green scapes rise above the foliage in July. They carry tubular, near-white flowers that attract pollinators.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	61 cm × 91 cm (24" × 36")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Blue-green with white-speckled centre
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: Plant where morning light reaches the leaves but midday sun does not. We observe the full spring emergence at our Bécancour trial fields to confirm the white speckling and vigour are True to Type before shipping.
