Description

A Cascading Fountain of Golden Yellow in the Shade Garden

Bate Aukema introduced Hosta 'Frisian Pride' as an unregistered yellow hosta with long, arching leaves that rise gracefully before cascading downward into a dense, fountain-like mound. The pointed leaves have rippled edges and twisted tips that add textural interest and a sense of movement throughout the season. Foliage is a warm golden yellow that holds well with morning sun or dappled light. It grows reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Use it as a bold focal point in a shaded or partially sunny border where its arching habit can be fully appreciated.

Fountain-Like Arching Habit: Long leaves rise and cascade in a graceful fountain form, creating a dense, rounded mound with natural movement that stands out in any shade planting.
Warm Golden Yellow Foliage: Rich golden yellow colouring holds its vibrancy through the season, brightening shaded borders and providing a warm contrast to blue or green companions.
Rippled Edges and Twisted Tips: Gently rippled leaf margins and twisted pointed tips add refined textural detail that rewards close observation in the collector's garden.
Pale Lavender Blooms: Delicate pale lavender flowers appear above the golden mound in summer, providing a soft, elegant colour contrast to the warm yellow foliage.
Sun-Tolerant for a Yellow Hosta: 'Frisian Pride' performs best with morning sun or late afternoon light, which intensifies the golden colour without scorching the foliage.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	41 cm × 91 cm (16" × 36")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Golden yellow with pale lavender flowers
Light Requirements	Partial shade; morning sun to late afternoon sun

Grower's Tip: 'Frisian Pride' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and a spot with morning sun will give you the richest golden colour without the risk of leaf scorch — it's one of the more sun-tolerant yellow hostas we grow at our nursery in Bécancour, QC. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Bate Aukema selection, with its characteristic arching fountain habit verified before it leaves Bécancour.
