Bold Gold Margins on a Commanding Upright Giant
J. Machen, Jr. registered Hosta 'Liberty' in 2000 as a sport of the legendary H. 'Sagae'. It emerged from Machen's clump in Mobjack, Virginia, inheriting Sagae's dramatic upright habit. The leaves are medium blue-green with a wide 6.4 cm (2.5") golden yellow margin that brightens through summer. It earned the AHGA Hosta of the Year award in 2012, confirming its place among the great garden hostas. Canadian gardeners from Zone 3 through 9 rely on it as a bold anchor for shaded borders.

Leaf: 32 cm (12.6") long × 24.9 cm (9.8") wide with 12 vein pairs; medium blue-green centre with a wide 6.4 cm (2.5") golden yellow flat margin; glaucous bloom on both surfaces; rounded base.
