Dick and Jane Ward registered Hosta 'Midnight Hour' in 2009 from an original seedling of unknown parentage. The nearly round, rounded-base leaves are an intense blue-green with a dull, waxy surface and intensely corrugated texture that deepens with age. Fourteen vein pairs give the foliage a bold, architectural presence, and slightly rippled margins add a refined finishing detail. At 91 cm (36") tall and 137 cm (54") wide, it forms a commanding large mound with a moderate growth rate. It grows reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9 and is notably prolific in flower production.
