Description

A Ruffled Green Showpiece with a Powdery White Reverse

Chuck Wasitis registered Hosta 'Miss American Pie' in 2008 through Bridgewood Gardens. It is a seedling of H. 'Uncle Albert' with an unknown pollen parent. The leaves are medium green, heavily rippled along the margins, and lightly cupped and folded. The glaucous bloom on the underside creates a striking powdery white contrast. This medium-sized mound suits shaded borders and woodland gardens across Canada.

Leaf Shape and Texture: Ovate with a cordate base, lightly cupped and folded, with 8 to 10 vein pairs and heavily rippled margins that give the leaf a distinctive piecrust edge.
Leaf Colour: Medium green on top with a slightly shiny surface; glaucous bloom underneath creates a bold white reverse — a rare and eye-catching trait.
Mature Size: 33 cm high × 107 cm wide (13" × 42") — a broad, mound-like clump with a moderate growth rate.
Flowers: Pale lavender tubular blooms appear in summer, adding a soft colour accent above the foliage.
Seed: Sets viable seeds in green pods — useful for hybridizers and collectors.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	33 cm × 107 cm (13" × 42")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Medium green with glaucous white reverse
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: Hosta 'Miss American Pie' handles Canadian winters reliably from Zone 3 through 9, making it a durable choice from Victoria, BC to Halifax, NS. We grow it at our nursery in Bécancour, QC, where the rippled margins and glaucous reverse develop beautifully in dappled shade. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic 'Miss American Pie', verified before it leaves Bécancour.
