Description

A Shimmering Sapphire Canopy for the Shaded Border

Hosta 'Skylight' is a large blue hosta bred by Bev Stegeman. Bev Stegeman registered it in 2001 from a cross between 'Dorothy Benedict' and H. montana macrophylla. The leaves carry an intense glaucous bloom, shifting from cerulean blue in spring to deep green by late summer. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Use it as a bold focal point in shaded borders or as a commanding container specimen.

Intense Turquoise Colour: Leaves carry a heavy waxy coating that produces a rich beryl-to-cobalt tone, defining the spring garden with cool, saturated colour.
Exceptional Substance: With 14 pairs of veins and thick, broadly ovate foliage, this variety holds its ground against wind and garden pests.
Glaucous on Both Sides: The frost appears on both the top and bottom of the leaf, giving it a luminous, ethereal quality unlike most blue hostas.
Substantial Scapes: Thick, blue-green stems rise well above the mound to display tubular, pale lavender flowers mid-season.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	30 cm × 91 cm (12" × 36")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Intensely blue-green to turquoise, fading to dark green in late summer
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: Plant 'Skylight' in a spot protected from heavy overhead watering and harsh afternoon sun to preserve that sapphire-blue waxy coating as long as possible. Every division we ship is monitored at our Bécancour, QC trial fields to confirm the signature glaucous bloom and vigour are fully evident before it ships True to Type.
