Description

Deep Cupping and Heavy Corrugation from the Beilstein Collection

Hosta 'Smokey Mountains' is a striking blue-green cultivar from the renowned Beilstein breeding programme of Doug and Mardy Beilstein. They developed it from the exceptional H. 'King of Spades' lineage, capturing its signature heavy corrugation and deep cupping in a compact, richly textured mound. The thick, puckered foliage is dimpled and crinkled across the surface, creating a bold sculptural presence in the shade border. Lavender flowers arrive in August, adding a late-season flourish above the blue-green canopy. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3 through 9.

Corrugation: Heavy, bumpy corrugation with deep cupping and a puckered, dimpled surface — one of the most textured blue hostas in the Beilstein Collection.
Colour: Rich blue-green foliage with thick substance that holds its colour and form through the full Canadian growing season.
Lineage: Bred from H. 'King of Spades' — a pedigree that brings proven vigour and exceptional leaf substance to the garden.
Flowers: Lavender blooms in August — a late-season highlight that extends the ornamental interest of this cultivar well into summer's end.
Size: 30 cm (12") tall × 51 cm (20") wide — a compact mound with a commanding textural presence.
Hardiness: Zones 3–9 — reliably cold-hardy across Canada.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	30 cm × 51 cm (12" × 20")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Rich blue-green; heavily corrugated
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Smokey Mountains' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and its thick, corrugated leaves become more visually stunning as the clump matures over time — a hosta that rewards patience. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we verify the signature deep cupping and heavy corrugation before shipping. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Doug and Mardy Beilstein selection from the King of Spades lineage.
