A Luminous Two-Tone Giant for the Shady Border
Olga Petryszyn registered Hosta 'Tobacco Road' in 2010, introducing one of the most distinctive colour combinations in the genus. She bred it from a cross of (H. 'Elatior' × H. 'High Noon') and a complex pollen parent rooted in H. 'Great Plains' and H. 'Tokudama' lineage. The result is a large, upright mound with a soft muted gold centre that bleeds gently into lime green edges — both surfaces exceptionally shiny and waxy. It thrives in Canadian shade gardens from Zone 3 through 9, making it a reliable performer coast to coast. Plant it as a bold focal point in a mixed border or as a specimen where its luminous two-tone foliage can be appreciated up close.

Mature Size: Grows to approximately 84 cm tall × 102 cm wide (33" × 40"), forming an upright, mound-like clump with a fast growth rate.

Leaf Detail: Leaves reach 33 cm long × 23 cm wide (13" × 9") with 16–17 vein pairs. The ovate blade has a cordate base, slightly wavy margins, and a very shiny upper surface — dull underneath.

Colour Evolution: The gold centre deepens and intensifies as the season progresses, creating a richer contrast with the lime green margins by late summer.

Flowers: Pale lavender tubular blooms appear on scapes reaching 86–94 cm (34–37") in mid-June through mid-July. Sets viable seed in green pods.
