Description

A Gilded Legacy for the Collector's Garden

Hosta 'Tyler's Treasure' is a magnificent, large-stature cultivar that brings a sophisticated glow to the Canadian shade landscape. Discovered and registered by Charlie Isaacs as a stable, variegated sport of the classic Hosta 'Piedmont Gold', this plant inherits its parent's celebrated vigour and luminous quality. It forms a massive, mound-like specimen featuring expansive, slightly shiny leaves with a deep green centre framed by exceptionally wide, 3.8 cm yellow margins. This striking "gold-edged" pattern creates a beautiful shimmering effect as the plant matures, making it a "treasure" for anchoring a woodland border from the first spring thaw through to the autumn.

Why It Stands Out

Extra-Wide Golden Margins: The vibrant, 3.8 cm wide yellow edges provide a bold, "halo" effect that illuminates darker garden spaces.
Substantial Heart-Shaped Foliage: Boasts large leaves (24 cm long by 20 cm wide) with a rounded base and 13 to 14 pairs of deep, architectural veins.
Elegant Rippled Texture: The margins feature a slight ripple that adds a sense of movement and layered depth to the mature clump.
Impressive Landscape Scale: Reaches a commanding 122 cm diameter, making it a primary focal point that naturally deters weeds and fills large gaps.
Near-White June Blooms: Produces tall, 90 cm green scapes topped with near-white tubular flowers that contrast beautifully against the dark green and gold.

Grower's Tip

To maximize the contrast of 'Tyler's Treasure,' site it in a location that receives dappled morning sun; this strengthens the golden intensity of those wide margins. Because this variety is a sport of 'Piedmont Gold,' it is a reliable grower in our Quebec climate, provided it has consistent moisture to support its large leaf mass. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we meticulously monitor the spring emergence to ensure the 3.8 cm margin is perfectly defined and True to Type. We never ship until we verify this specific variegation, ensuring you receive the authentic Charlie Isaacs selection ready to thrive in your local garden.
