A Quietly Elegant Sport with a Crisp White Edge
F. Riehl registered Hosta 'Veronica Lake' in 1993 as a sport of H. 'Pearl Lake'. The leaves are slightly blue-green with a 0.6 cm (¼") creamy white smooth margin running the full perimeter. Foliage is dull on top and slightly shiny underneath, with a flat base and 5–7 vein pairs. It grows reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Use it as a refined edging plant or mass planting in shaded borders and woodland gardens.
-
Crisp White Margin: A smooth, creamy white margin 0.6 cm (¼") wide frames every leaf cleanly, providing high contrast against the slightly blue-green centre.
-
Distinctive Leaf Texture: Dull upper surface and slightly shiny underside give the foliage a subtle two-tone quality that catches light from below in dappled shade.
-
Compact and Tidy: Reaching 25 cm (10") high and 36 cm (14") wide, it forms a neat, well-behaved mound well suited to edging, containers, and small-space plantings.
-
Lavender Blooms on Tall Scapes: Pale lavender bell-shaped flowers rise on scapes to 46 cm (18") in summer, adding graceful vertical interest above the foliage.
-
Pearl Lake Heritage: As a sport of the beloved H. 'Pearl Lake', it inherits a vigorous clumping habit and reliable performance across Canadian climates.
