Description

A Cascading Wave of Rippled Blue

Hosta 'Waterslide' is a striking medium-sized cultivar from Hans Hansen, introduced through the Proven Winners® Shadowland® hosta programme. Hansen engineered it to bring a sense of fluid motion to the shade garden, with intensely wavy, ruffled pie-crust margins that mimic the churning surface of a mountain stream. The foliage is heavy and leathery, draped in a thick glaucous wax that delivers one of the most persistent powder blue colours available to Canadian gardeners. It performs reliably across Canadian hardiness zones 3 through 9.

Ruffled Margins: Intensely wavy pie-crust leaf edges create a dynamic, layered look that adds extraordinary texture and a sense of movement to the border.
Powder Blue Coating: Heavy waxy glaucous bloom keeps the leaves a cool, frosty blue long after other varieties have transitioned to green — one of the most persistent blue coatings in the medium hosta category.
Leaf Form: Long, lance-shaped leaves with pointed tips that draw the eye downward, enhancing the cascading effect of the mound.
Slug Resistance: Thick, heavily substanced foliage is a difficult target for pests, keeping the ruffled edges pristine through the season.
Flowers: Pale lavender blooms on tall, sturdy scapes in late summer — a soft vertical contrast to the blue waves below.
Size: 35–45 cm (14–18") tall × 80–90 cm (31–35") wide — a full medium mound with strong architectural presence.
Hardiness: Zones 3–9 — reliably cold-hardy across Canada.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	35–45 cm × 80–90 cm (14–18" × 31–35")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Intense powder blue; pale lavender flowers
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Waterslide' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and deep or dappled shade preserves the frosty blue wax — excessive direct sun can melt the coating and reveal the green leaf beneath. At our nursery in Bécancour, QC, we wait for the signature wavy margins and deep blue saturation to fully develop before shipping. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Proven Winners® Shadowland® selection by Hans Hansen.
