Description

Anderson's 2023 Sport — Iconic Scale, Refined Margins

Hosta 'Winter Snow' is a sport of the legendary Hosta 'Sum and Substance', registered by Anderson in 2023. It retains the bold, heavily corrugated leaf presence of its famous parent while adding a broad creamy-white margin that frames the warm chartreuse-gold centre. The contrast between the textured gold-green leaf and the pale outer edge is striking in a shade garden. It suits Canadian hardiness zones 3 through 9 with ease. Plant it as a bold focal point or anchor in a mixed shade border.

Foliage: Large, heavily corrugated leaves with a warm chartreuse-gold centre and a broad creamy-white to pale yellow margin — impressive in both scale and texture.
Size: Grows to approximately 51 cm tall × 91 cm wide (20" × 36"), more compact than its parent while retaining substantial leaf presence.
Flowers: Arching scapes bear pale lavender blooms in early summer, adding a delicate seasonal accent above the bold foliage.
Light: Performs best in partial to full shade; morning sun with afternoon shade maintains vibrant margin colour without leaf scorch.
Hardiness: Reliable across Canadian zones 3–9, handling cold winters and rebounding with full vigour each spring.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	51 cm × 91 cm (20" × 36")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Chartreuse-gold centre, creamy-white margin
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Winter Snow' handles Canadian winters reliably from zone 3 through 9 — we've grown it at our nursery in Bécancour, QC and it returns each spring with the same bold clump presence you see here. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic 'Winter Snow' as registered by Anderson in 2023, verified before it leaves Bécancour.
