Description

A Giant Wave of Rippled Gold at the Edge of the Shade Garden

Hans Hansen and Tony Avent registered Hosta 'Atlantis' in 2004 as a sport of H. 'Abba Dabba Do'. The massive, pointed dark green leaves are dramatically framed by exceptionally wide, heavily rippled yellow margins that mature to a luminous gold as the season progresses. Foliage is thick and waxy with outstanding substance and superior sun tolerance for a variegated giant. It grows vigorously across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9. Give it generous space and let it become the undisputed focal point of a large shaded or partially sunny border.

Massive Visual Impact: At 75 cm (30") tall and 150–175 cm (60–70") wide at maturity, 'Atlantis' commands the landscape with a presence that stops visitors in their tracks.
Intensely Rippled Gold Margins: The wide yellow-to-gold borders are heavily waved and pie-crusted, adding kinetic energy and sophisticated texture to the mounded habit.
Superior Sun Tolerance: Unlike many variegated giants, 'Atlantis' handles significantly more morning sun than expected — which only serves to brighten and deepen the golden margins.
Heavy Leaf Substance: Thick, waxy foliage built for the Canadian climate offers excellent resistance to slugs and garden pests while maintaining a fresh, vigorous look late into autumn.
Abba Dabba Do Heritage: As a sport of the legendary H. 'Abba Dabba Do', 'Atlantis' inherits the same bold scale and rippled margin character, refined into one of the most dramatic variegated hostas available.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	75 cm × 150–175 cm (30" × 60–70")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Dark green centre with wide yellow to gold rippled margin
Light Requirements	Partial shade to partial sun

Grower's Tip: Give 'Atlantis' plenty of room — this is not a plant for tight quarters, and crowding it will rob you of the full cascading effect of those rippled margins. It handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and for gardeners in the Toronto area working with large urban lots or ravine gardens, it makes an extraordinary specimen that earns compliments every single season. We grow it at our nursery in Bécancour, QC and verify the massive leaf size and signature rippled margins before every plant ships. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic 'Atlantis', confirmed before it leaves Bécancour.
