Description

A Steely Blue Treasure for the Deepest Shade

Originally introduced as 'Blue Cherub', this captivating variety was officially registered as Hosta 'Azure Cherub' to distinguish it from other "Cherub" named cultivars in the trade. It is celebrated as one of the most intense "Tardiana" types, a lineage famous for producing some of the bluest foliage in the horticultural world. This medium-sized perennial forms a dense, symmetrical mound of thick, heart-shaped leaves that carry a heavy glaucous bloom, giving them a remarkable steely-blue appearance that persists well into the season. Whether it's anchoring a woodland garden in Quebec or gracing a shaded patio in BC, it brings a serene, cool atmosphere to any Canadian landscape.

Why It Stands Out

True Blue Intensity: Recognized by collectors as one of the "bluest" varieties available, it maintains its rich azure hue far better than older cultivars.
Exceptional Substance: The thick, leathery leaves offer superior resistance to slugs and snails, ensuring your garden remains pristine throughout the summer.
Reliable Mound Habit: Forms a low, dense clump that works perfectly for mass plantings or as a tidy, structural edging plant.
Summer Floral Accent: In mid-summer, it produces delicate, pale lavender flowers that provide a soft contrast to the waxy blue foliage.

Technical Specifications

Feature	Details
Size (Height)	30–40 cm (12–16 inches)
Size (Width)	60–102 cm (24–40 inches)
Hardiness Zone	Canadian Zones 3–9
Colour	Intensely waxy blue-green
Light Requirements	Partial Shade to Full Shade

Grower's Tip

To keep your Hosta 'Azure Cherub' looking its bluest, we recommend planting it in a spot that avoids direct midday sun, as heat can "melt" the waxy coating that creates the blue effect. At our Bécancour nursery, we meticulously observe every specimen until it shows its true, waxy character to confirm it is True to Type before shipping to our customers across Canada. This patience ensures that the plant you receive has the thick substance and intense colour that makes this variety a perennial favourite.
