Description

A Chick Wasitis Lance-Leaf With Crisp White Margin and Moderately Wavy Texture

Chick Wasitis registered Hosta 'Barracuda' in 2011, with Bridgewood Gardens as introducer. Narrow lance-shaped leaves with a tapered base reach 17.8 cm (7") long × 6.4 cm (2.5") wide, carrying a crisp 0.3 cm (⅛") white margin and moderately wavy edges. The slightly shiny surface on both sides gives the foliage a clean, refined finish that catches light beautifully in the shade border. Medium lavender tubular flowers complete the picture in summer. Canadian gardeners from Zone 3 through 9 will find its narrow, architectural form a striking contrast to broader-leaved companions.

Narrow lance-shaped form: Leaves with a tapered base — 17.8 cm (7") long × 6.4 cm (2.5") wide — give 'Barracuda' a sharp, linear character that stands apart from typical rounded hosta mounds.
Crisp white margin: A precise 0.3 cm (⅛") wide white margin traces the edge of each medium green leaf with clean, high-contrast definition all season long.
Moderately wavy texture: The gently undulating leaf edges add movement and texture to the compact mound, creating visual interest even without flowers.
Slightly shiny surfaces: A subtle sheen on both the upper and lower leaf surfaces gives the foliage a polished, refined quality in dappled shade.
Medium lavender blooms: Tubular medium lavender flowers add a warm seasonal colour accent above the compact, architecturally refined foliage mound.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	30.5 cm × 71.1 cm (12" × 28")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Medium green with white margins
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: 'Barracuda' handles Canadian winters with ease from Zone 3 through 9, and its narrow lance form makes it an excellent edging plant along a shaded path where the crisp white margin can be appreciated up close. We grow it at our nursery in Bécancour, QC, where its architectural silhouette is a favourite contrast plant among the broader-leaved giants. Our True to Type standard means you receive the authentic Chick Wasitis selection — verified before it leaves Bécancour.
