Description

A Grand Sapphire Canopy of Stately Presence

Hosta 'Blue Angel' is a legendary giant that serves as a cool, calming anchor in the Canadian shade landscape. This 1986 Aden registration is a quintessential classic, prized for its massive, heart-shaped foliage that displays an intense, waxy cobalt-to-cerulean finish. From the lush valleys of British Columbia to the rocky gardens of the Maritimes, its sprawling 178 cm width creates a dense, weed-smothering mound that commands respect. At our nursery in Bécancour, we monitor the early spring emergence of every specimen to ensure the expansive leaf size and signature glaucous bloom are True to Type before your order is ever prepared for its new home.

Why It Stands Out

Colossal Garden Presence: One of the largest blue varieties available, reaching a magnificent 178 cm width that effortlessly fills a large garden void.
Thick, Pointed Foliage: The heavy-substance leaves feature a gentle ripple and a distinct point, providing a natural hallmark of slug resistance.
Luminous Cool Tones: Maintains its deep, shimmering sapphire-grey hue throughout the summer, especially when tucked into a fully shaded nook.
Pale Bell-Shaped Blooms: In mid-summer, sturdy scapes arise with near-white flowers, offering a delicate vertical contrast to the massive mound.

Technical Specs

Feature	Details
Size	81 cm high × 178 cm wide
Hardiness Zone	Canadian Zones 3–9
Colour	Deep blue-grey / cobalt
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower’s Tip

To preserve the pristine waxy coating that gives Hosta 'Blue Angel' its signature colour, avoid overhead watering — heavy spray can prematurely wear away the blue bloom. We are committed to our horticultural standards and never ship dormant roots; we wait for the first signs of life in Bécancour to verify that every plant is healthy and True to Type, giving your garden giant the best possible start in the Great White North.
