Description

An Elegant Seaside Sentinel for the Shade Garden

Hybridized by Rick Goodenough as a cross of Hosta 'Sand Pebbles', Hosta 'Cape Cod' is an elegant variegated cultivar that brings refined coastal charm to the Canadian shade garden. It performs with effortless grace from the maritime climates of the Atlantic to the dappled light of Ontario woodlots. Its striking contrast and fluid foliar habit make it a reliable standout that develops into a truly glorious specimen over time.

Why It Stands Out

Deep Forest-Green Lustre: The elongated, heart-shaped leaves feature a rich, deep green centre that provides a sophisticated, cooling anchor in shaded spaces.
Broad Luminous Margins: Each leaf is encircled by a wide, creamy-white rim that adds sharp contrast to the dark core.
Fluid Foliar Architecture: The foliage is slightly folded and lightly dimpled, with wavy margins that give the mound a sense of fluid motion.
Soft Lavender Summer Blooms: In mid-to-late summer, sturdy scapes rise above the 101 cm wide canopy to present clusters of pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers.

Grower's Tip

Patience is the key for this variety — it typically takes a few years to reach its full size and display its signature wavy architecture. At our nursery in Bécancour, we adhere to our True to Type mandate, ensuring divisions show established variegation before they are cleared for shipping to your door.
