Description

A Luminous Emerald Powerhouse for the Sun-Drenched Border

A 2011 standout from Dutch hybridizer Gerard Heemskerk, Hosta 'Colored Hulk' is a stable and striking sport of Hosta 'Anne' that brings a bold inverted colour palette to the Canadian garden. Its lime-toned heart is framed by a rugged, dark emerald margin — a reverse variegation that holds its contrast through the longest summer days, from the humid heat of Southern Ontario to the breezy coasts of Newfoundland.

Radiant Contrast: Broadly ovate leaves feature a luminous light green centre surrounded by wide, dark green margins that create a striking reverse variegation effect.
Sun-Defying Vigour: Unlike many pale-centred varieties, this selection is notably sun-tolerant, maintaining its crisp, beryl-toned centre without scorching.
Satin-Sheen Finish: Leaf surfaces carry a slightly shiny texture on top, catching the light and adding a healthy glow to partially sunny or shaded beds.
Sturdy Architecture: Moderately cupped foliage and a tidy, mounded habit make it an excellent choice for the front of the border or as a high-impact groundcover.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	35 cm × 70 cm (14" × 28")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Light green centre with wide dark green margins
Light Requirements	Partial shade to dappled sun

Grower's Tip: Hosta 'Colored Hulk' is a moderate grower that truly earns its name with robust substance and the ability to thrive where other hostas might fade. To ensure the signature wide margins and stable light green centre are True to Type, we never ship dormant eyes — we wait for spring emergence at our Bécancour, QC trial fields to personally verify the variegation and vigour of every plant before it leaves our care.
