Description

Golden Quilted Warmth for the Dappled Shade

Hosta 'Corn Muffins' is a medium-sized gold hosta bred collaboratively by Doug Beilstein and Mark Zilis. Registered in 2009, it is a cross between Hosta 'Glory' and Hosta 'King Tut'. Its most striking trait is the heavily corrugated, broadly ovate foliage that emerges in a warm golden yellow each spring. It thrives across Canadian hardiness zones 3–9, making it a reliable choice from coast to coast. Plant it as a bold focal point in shaded borders or woodland beds where its quilted texture commands attention.

Heavily Corrugated Surface: The thick, deeply puckered leaves create a rugged, quilted look that naturally discourages slugs — a practical advantage in any Canadian garden.
Golden Glow: Foliage emerges in vibrant golden yellow, acting as a warm beacon in darker, shaded corners of woodland beds and mixed borders.
Artistic Form: Each leaf is moderately cupped and wavy, with slightly rippled margins that add rhythmic movement to the 79 cm (31") spread.
Subtle Contrast: Matte gold leaf tops pair with glaucous undersides, offering a sophisticated two-tone effect when leaves catch a summer breeze.

Feature	Specification
Size (H × W)	46 cm × 79 cm (18" × 31")
Hardiness Zone	3–9
Colour	Golden yellow with glaucous undersides
Light Requirements	Partial to full shade

Grower's Tip: To preserve the warm golden hue, site this cultivar in bright indirect light or gentle morning sun. The heavy corrugation and 12-vein pairs are essential True to Type traits of this Beilstein/Zilis hybrid. We monitor spring emergence at our Bécancour trial fields to confirm cupped texture and vibrant gold before your plant is cleared for shipping.
